Graduate Research Grant
Purpose
The Graduate Research Grant (GRG) aims to assist CHE graduate students in the completion of their MA/MS thesis or doctoral dissertation.
Source of Funds
The funds that will be used for the GRG shall come from the scholarship portion of the Graduate Tuition Increment Fund (GTIF) of CHE
Eligibility
The proponent shall be a part-time or full-time graduate student of any graduate program in the CHE whose thesis or dissertation proposal has been approved by the thesis or dissertation committee.
Contract Rate
The maximum grant is PhP 50,000 for master’s thesis or PhP 100,000 for doctoral dissertation. The amount granted will depend on the financial requirements of the research, subject to deliberation by the CGC and the availability of funds.
Scope of Grant
a. The grant shall be for a maximum duration of two years for master’s thesis and four years for doctoral dissertation. The research should be finished within two years (for thesis) and four years (for dissertation) after the approval of the grant.
b. The grant may cover the following Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) and Capital Outlay (CO):
Other services under MOOE such as honoraria and project staff salaries (honoraria/salaries shall follow UP rates and COA guidelines; these shall be taxable);
MOOE such as supplies and materials, books, travel expenses, laboratory analytical services, conference attendance expenses, equipment rental, sundry (reproduction, communication, internet services);
CO such as small laboratory machine, audio-visual equipment, and office machine necessary in the conduct of research or creative work that shall be turned over to CHE upon completion of the project.
c. Co-funding may be allowed. Relevant information shall be cited in the appropriate section in the application form. In the spirit of equitability, transparency shall be observed before and after the receipt of the grant to allow more students to benefit. In the event that another institution awards a grantee with additional funding which is large enough to cover the research expenses, the grantee shall no longer receive the remaining portion of the GRG (see section 6).
Release of Funds
d. The GRG shall be released in three phases as stated in the contract. Seventy percent of the aid shall be released after the approval of the grant. The other 20 % shall be given after submission of the progress report and the remaining 10 % shall be released after the completion of the project.
Obligations of Grantee
e. The grantee shall submit a progress report within one year from approval of grant.
f. The grantee shall submit the following to the CHE Office of Graduate Studies (OGS) after the completion of the project:
Signed Approval/Signature Sheet of the MA/MS thesis or doctoral dissertation;
Proof of submission of bound copies, i.e., Thesis/Dissertation Distribution Record; and
Soft copy of published article from the study.
Intellectual Property Ownership
g. The grantee should seek advice regarding intellectual property protection policies of the University, in accordance with the Revised Intellectual Property Rights Policy of the University of the Philippines System, through the Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Section, Research Dissemination and Utilization Office of the OVCRD.
h. Should the result of the project be published or publicly presented or exhibited, UP-College of Home Economics shall be acknowledged as the source of the grant.
Sanctions for Failure to Fulfill Obligations of Grantee
i. The College Clearance of the grantee who fails to fulfill his/her obligations shall be withheld.
Application Process
j. Duly endorsed applications (see GRG Form 01) shall be accepted by the Office of Graduate Studies (OGS) and evaluated by the College Graduate Committee (CGC) accordingly.
k. The application period for the GRG shall be from October 1 to 30 for first semester and March 1 to 30 for second semester of each academic year.
l. The Dean shall approve proposals based on the endorsement of the CGC and on the availability of funds, which shall be forwarded to the Chancellor for final approval.
m. The OGS shall notify successful applicants and advise them to sign the GRG Contract.
n. The grantee shall be responsible for the notarization of the signed GRG contract.
